Morgan’s Love Letter To Workers
I’ve been avoiding writing this, my love letter to workers.
Why? That thing that holds us all back. Fear. Fear of being dissident, of being not taken seriously, of throwing my hard-earned career away.
You know what? Fuck it.
Dear workers,
Are you tired? I am.
My clients are too. Tired of toxic bosses, of workplace bullying, of either not having enough experience or having too much.
Of sexual harassment,
Of being unfairly placed on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP),
Of layoffs,
Of being paid less than they know they’re worth,
The list goes on.
I’m tired of watching generations of my loved ones, friends, and family, find themselves shit outta luck in yet another bad work situation that they choose to stay in because finding a new job is soul-draining and a pain in the ass. So I decided to do something about it. And that thing is Braggin Right.
Our mission is to empower every employee to thrive at work, not just survive it. Because, let’s be real, jobs can put us into survival mode. You’d be surprised how many people stay in a job they hate because “the team needs them,” or they, “just want to close out this last project.” Our attachment to our jobs can resemble that of an attachment to an abusive partner or parent. How many excuses will you make for its bad behavior before you leave?
Workplaces shouldn’t be battlefields. Yet the pressure to perform, problematic culture, gatekeeping, and leaders who are wolves-in-sheep's clothing keep that old adage true: high school never ends.
But it did end. And we are professionals, who should be treated as such. More than that, we’re HUMANS who should be treated as such. Paid fairly, provided respect, if not kindness, and fitting our work around our lives. Why have we come to expect and accept that everything else has to fit around work?
Generations past preach gratefulness, for the paycheck, for the health insurance, for the retirement match, for “the chance to work here.” I’ve come to view this gratefulness as a trap. They’re paying you for your work, while you build their company, make their sales, handle their increasingly angry customers, and create their products. All while nickel and dimning you every chance they have. The reality is that workers ARE the business. Without them, executive teams and venture capital firms are overseers of empty brand names and blank knowledge bases.
But listen, I hear you. “The devil you know,” right? Sometimes it is easier to grit your teeth and bear it, especially when you’re so focused on just getting through this meeting, this day, this week. To engage with your future, you have to get off the merry-go-round of the present, and that takes time, energy, and dedication that can be difficult to commit to when you have infinite competing priorities. This is why I teach a different approach to advancement. One that prioritizes your wellness AND your wallet, while taking into account the effort that you’ve put into building your career.
We often insure things we’ve spent a long time working for; houses, cars, lives, etc. But what about your career? Chances are, unless you’re in a unionized field, there’s very little recourse for you when things go sideways. Until now. Braggin Right offers the revolutionary services of Career Insurance, Emergency Response, and Advancement Coaching, designed to be there for you when shit breaks down and you need to get back on the road. Kinda like AAA for your career.
Through my career coaching program, you’ll learn an opportunistic mindset about work, because, I promise, work has an opportunistic mindset about you. The dream job is dead. The average American has 12 jobs in their lifetime and the average length of employment with a single employer is 4.3 years. There is no “dream,” there is only this job and the next opportunity.
Not only that, the easiest way to get a higher salary is to switch jobs. Zippia estimates that job switchers see a pay bump of 14.8%, versus wage growth of 5.8% for those who remain in the same role. What could you do with almost 10% more income?
Whether you’re ready to make more money and ditch chaotic job searches that leave you feeling ill-qualified and hopeless or want to stay on at your current role but feel like there’s no path forward, you can empower your next career move by booking your free career consultation. Together, we’ll build an action plan that propels and engages you AND your work.
Tag me in and immediately have a highly organized and rabidly supportive co-pilot in your career that will send you ideal job matches, help you negotiate a higher salary than you’ve ever made, and be there for every “what the fuck” moment your career can dish out.
What are you waiting for? Let’s get started.
